Evening Help Guide

Plan Your Evening (or Afternoon) at the Symphony

Looking for a good place to eat before the concert? Aren’t sure what to wear or where to park? Unsure how to find your seat? We’ve compiled a step-by-step help guide for having the perfect Symphony experience.

Pre-Concert

What do I wear?

We get asked this a lot, so you are not alone. Just like the music you will hear at the concert, the symphony is a different experience for everyone. We have no dress code, but we encourage you to come in whatever makes you feel great. Whether that's a cocktail dress/suit and tie or jeans with a button down shirt, rock it like the Orchestra rocks Beethoven.

Dinner Plans

We suggest you make dinner reservations between one and a half to two hours prior to the concert. Consider the size of your party, the restaurant’s distance from Century II, and how long you’d like to linger over cocktails. There are several options for dinner nearby, and we have preferred restaurants we recommend for quality, delicious food.

Arriving at the Symphony

You can view our location and download a parking map here. Please keep in mind that the parking meters in the South lot of Century II must be fed.

If you are purchasing tickets at the window or grabbing them from Will Call, we recommend arriving 30 minutes prior to the performance.  If you'd like to avoid the line all together, you can have your tickets emailed. Emailed tickets can be printed or shown on your smart phone (turn your phone's brightness all the way up so our scanners can read them!). If you prefer your tickets to be mailed, we suggest ordering your tickets at least one week in advance.

ARRIVE EARLY FOR CONCERT TALKS

If you’d like to learn more about the music in our concert programs, Concert Talks are just what you need! Before every Masterworks Concert, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra will present pre-concert talks which help prepare you and deepen your understanding of the music to be performed in the program. Sometimes our guest soloists even join Maestro Hege for a discussion of their concerto collaboration! Free to all ticket holders, Concert Talks take place in the Concert Hall one hour prior to each Masterworks performance.

Finding Your Seat

Find your seat with ease with the help of our ushers. Members of our Youth Orchestras and Century II Staff will be present to hand out programs and show you to your seat.

If your seat number is between 1 and 30, you will want to go left when entering the lobby. If your seat number is between 101 and 130, you will want to go right when entering the lobby.

Seating Charts

Tuning

The Orchestra will tune at 7:30 PM on Saturdays and 3 PM on Sundays. Symphony guests can still be seated until Maestro Daniel Hege takes the stage to begin the performance.

Late Seating

Late seating will take place after the first piece of each concert, which is typically between five and ten minutes. Speakers throughout the lobby and side ramps make it possible for latecomers to still enjoy the performance.

When am I Supposed to Clap?

Yes, the infamous "clapping at the symphony" dilemma. It is tradition to wait until all movements in a piece are finished before clapping. Movements  are clearly listed in your program book with timings to make it easier to follow along. Rule of thumb? If you're unsure, simply wait for someone else to start clapping.

Concert Duration

Concerts last approximately two hours.

Post-Concert

Be sure to sign-up for our email list or like us on Facebook to see if we have a post-concert hang happening with our fabulous WSO musicians!
